Thank you to all our friends at Morphicon 2010!
Several of our volunteer staff members spent May 14-16 in Columbus, where we once again represented FURS as the official charity of Morphicon.
We had a great time -- presenting our workshop entitled "The Ferret Persona: Can You Relate?", participating in other workshops and activities, and meeting hosts of new friends, while reconnecting with the great folks we met last year.
Through Morphicon's fundraising activities and donations on behalf of FURS, and our own sales efforts, we raised more than $1,000 this weekend! The money raised will go toward acute and preventative care -- including rabies vaccinations -- for the 40 or so ferrets currently in our care.
Best of all, we have been invited back next year (so we must not have made complete fools of ourselves!).
Thanks again to all you friendly, creative, caring, furry and not-so-furry folk at Morphicon for welcoming us into your world!

As you know, Sunday, May 23 was to have been the date of the third annual Ferret Bowl for Ferrets Unlimited Rescue Services.
We received word yesterday that the roof of the shopping center in which Meszar's Lanes is located suffered a major leak a few days ago, and Meszar's Lanes sustained heavy damages. All of their lanes have been ruined, and several adjacent businesses also suffered serious damage. Meszar's is out of commission, and the Meszars, who have operated these lanes for decades (Meszar's Lanes is an institution in the Old Brooklyn neighborhood) are - at least for the foreseeable future - without income.
So, Ferret Bowl 2010 has been postponed until a later date. The Meszars will know within a few weeks how long it will take to repair the damage. They have promised us first choice of dates for a rescheduled bowling fundraiser.
Ferret Bowl is one of our major, major fundraisers, and the loss of this event comes at a time when we are getting swamped with surrender requests. Additionally, all of our kids must now have rabies vaccinations to comply with local Board of Health regulations. Dr. Krupka of Avon Lake Animal Clinic will be doing this for us, but as you can imagine, the cost of vaccinating 40 ferrets at once will be considerable.
We WILL have a Ferret Bowl this year! And, we'll let you know of a rescheduled date as soon as we can.
In the meantime, we are asking for your continued support to help us continue to rescue, rehabilitate, and adopt the companion ferrets that come to us.
Also, we ask that you keep the Meszars in your thoughts. They have done so much for us, way above and beyond making their facility available to us. They are wonderful folks, and the lanes have not only been their livelihood, but their lives.
We're looking forward to seeing you at the FURS third annual Ferret Bowl bowling fundraiser on Sunday, May 23, from 4 to 8 p.m., at Meszar's Lanes in Old Brooklyn (near the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo). Meszar's address is:
4231 Fulton Road (in the Memphis-Fulton Shopping Center, lower level) Cleveland, Ohio 44144 (216) 741-7933
A door fee of $20.00 gets you unlimited bowling, shoes, a pizza/salad/desert dinner and soft drink, and discounted cash bar.
We'll have contests, games, and raffles for every taste and interest, including the 50/50 and lottery frame raffles that have been so hugely successful at past events. We'll also have ferret and animal-themed merchandise available for purchase.
All proceeds go directly to the care of our fur kids.
This is a major fundraising event for FURS, and we need your support! It's also a great chance for ferret lovers, and anyone who enjoys bowling (especially the unlimited kind!), to come together and have fun while supporting a great cause.
For ticket information, call Sarah at (216) 315-0898.
Tickets will be held at the door.
Many thanks to the Meszars for hosting this event! We're looking forward to seeing you there!
