35 Ferts Vaccinated for Rabies!

Sunday, May 30, 2010.

It was a slow, but beautifully sunny Sunday morning on call for Dr. Frank Krupka at Avon Lake Animal Clinic. Until FURS volunteer staff and foster 'parents' showed up with 35 of our rescued ferrets for rabies vaccinations!

OK, Doc knew this was coming. We arranged it with him so that this could be done at a 'down' time for the clinic. There were ferrets EVERYWHERE!!!! Carriers and carriers and carriers filled with FERRETS!

Cuyahoga County, as well as other counties in northeast Ohio, is now requiring rabies vaccinations for ferrets. With support from many of you through your donations, we were able to get almost all of our kids vaccinated. A couple of foster homes will be bringing in their kids at another time, since they were unable to make it on Sunday.

Board member Rick Clashman won the 'came from farthest away' prize (OK, so we didn't give him an actually prize, other than the pleasure of our company), bringing Embry and Rocky from Steubenville. 'Most ferrets' honors went, as expected, to Crystal Walko, FURS Intake Coordinator. Crystal did an amazing job of telling one kid from another, but brought 'cheat sheets' on them, just in case.

Thanks to all of our foster home volunteers for giving up your Sunday morning to keep our kids healthy and protected!

And, although you already know we can't say enough good things about Dr. Krupka, we want to thank him anyway for taking care of our kids and maintaining his trademark sense of humor while doing so.

More news to come! Including some info about upcoming events. But, this was a huge undertaking for us in both time and scope, and we wanted you to know that we take the welfare of our kids very seriously!
