Ben & Jet

This is Ben and Jet... They were abandoned in a apartment in Windham OH along with an Iguana. These poor boys were living in their own feces where they contracted scabies.  They were saved and helped by 3 women. Heather, Justina, and Myself (Crystal from FURS)

Ben is worse off than Jet. Their poor paws and toes have thick crusty sores and are swollen with infection. When a sore falls off it bleeds. Their fur is very rough and thin and they have some teeth issues. Ben has trouble walking with his swollen feet. On July 31 2010 they were brought to Ferrets Unlimited Rescue Services.  Both were taken to one of our vets Dr Brittney Dodson at http://www.avonlakeanimalclinic.com/index.php. Where Dr. Dodson checked them out and diagnosed them with Scabies.  She did a test and confirmed this diagnosis.

Both Ben and jet have been treated with Revolution. http://www.1800petmeds.com/Revolution-prod10265.html;jsessionid=urifcQylCKUmxfGG5m0bYQ**.worker4 They are also receiving Metcam for pain and inflammation as well as Cephalexin antibiotic. These boys are very sweet and have great manners.  Both take their meds very well and LOVE their antibiotics that smells like a cream sickle.  Neither one has yet to have an accident outside the litter box!  Considering they lived in their own feces for so long I think this is awesome! Never again will they live with out a clean litter box.

Today (August 2 2010)   Ben and Jet have improved.  Although the sores are still very much still on their feet the swelling has gone down a great deal.  They both are eating and drinking well and have adapted well.  Neither one has had an accident outside the litter box.  Both boys seem happy and very greatful for their new chance at a good life.
